Abergynolwyn Carnival week is one of the most celebrated events in the village,
well supported by local people, including many faithful supporters from nearby
towns and villages. with all competitions maintaining a very high standard including fancy dress costumes, true-to-life characters and providing a very colourful tableau.
How did the Carnival come into being? In 1945, as part of the post-war celebrations, the first village carnival was organised, a rather insignificant event, which however appealed to the village people. This eventually developed into a week of events,
with a concert finalising the week’s activities, but with the Carnival evening holding
its own as the main attraction.
The festivities run over five days of celebrations towards the end of July, the
Carnival included. The Carnival is a highly competitive event led by the Carnival Queen and her Court, plus the Abergynolwyn Silver Band. Competition is keen,
the effort attracting numerous visitors and tourists.
The hard-working local officials and committee members are greatly appreciative
of the continuing support and contributions by everyone involved.
