Abergynolwyn lies on the B4405 road that connects with the A487 at Minffordd, at the top of the valley. By road, Abergynolwyn is some 2 hours drive from Holyhead, 2½ hours from Fishguard, 3 hours from Swansea, 3½ hours from Cardiff, 2½ hours from Liverpool or Manchester and 5 hours from London.
Anyone wishing to travel by rail can – usually with a number of train changes – alight at either Machynlleth or Tywyn, the nearest railway stations.
The only long distance coach service to the area is the 701 TrawsCambria service, which runs daily north to south and south to north between Holyhead and Newport, through, Bangor, Porthmadog, Aberystwyth, Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff. The nearest official stops are at the Cross Foxes hotel, just outside Dolgellau, and the Braich Goch hotel in Corris, but obliging drivers (if asked in advance) will stop at the Minffordd junction of the A487 and the B4405.
For those intending to fly, the nearest international airport is at Manchester. As the airport lies to the west of the city, overseas visitors may consider hiring a car from the airport knowing they’ll have no cities or large towns to negotiate
en route to Abergynolwyn.
